About this opportunity

Our First Steps Project, established for over 6 years, offers a comprehensive programme that includes accredited Retail and Warehouse Training, Supported Volunteering, and ESOL classes. The course curriculum begins with an introduction to the charity, the shop, and the local community. It is then structured into three key areas: theoretical learning through classroom activities and some written assignments, hands-on work experience involving tasks such as merchandising, operating the till, and providing customer service. Lastly, the curriculum covers topics such as CV writing, job applications, and interview skills to prepare participants for future employment opportunities. Participants in the project also benefit from educational visits to prominent facilities such as Martin’s Recycling Centre, Veolia Recycling and Energy Recovery Facility. St Lukes CARES is a charity at the heart of Inner South Leeds committed to making this vibrant community a better place by working with the skills and abilities of local people to reach their potential. We have a track record of over 20 years of working in this community and seeking to see it thrive through our various community projects, youth projects, charity shop and supported volunteering schemes. St Lukes CARES runs a conversational English class every Tuesday. All are welcome.
