About this class

The ESOL Functional Skills Qualifications in Mathematics will help you learn important Maths skills. In this course, you will practice number skills and basic problem-solving. You will also learn to use Maths in everyday situations.

The course is for Entry 1, Entry 2, Entry 3 and Level 1 students. You will also improve your English skills by speaking to other people from countries during class.

Even though this course is focused for ESOL learners, you will get the same qualification as the rest of the college. The class will have different activities where you will work together, in small groups, in pairs or on your own.

Entry Requirements & Interview Process

You do not need to have studied Maths before to do this course. You should have English at Entry 2 level or higher.

You will be invited to do an initial assessment to understand what level you are working at.

This qualification provides a strong foundation for moving into employment and further technical education. It also helps learners develop skills for everyday life.

After completing Level 1, you can choose to study GCSE Maths to enhance your skills and gain another qualification. This will be discussed with the Adult Progression Officer.

Learners will undertake two exams for each level: a non-calculator exam and a calculator exam.
