A course to help build confidence and key skills for success in the workplace. Northern College is offering a new opportunity to support individuals who are autistic or experience anxiety in overcoming barriers to employment, with the encouragement and assistance of a fantastic team. The Ready to Work programme is designed for level one learners or above. The course will help learners develop skills needed in the workplace including timekeeping, dressing for work, and interacting with colleagues. Local businesses will visit the college to provide guidance and support. The programme will include two days a week learning key skills in the classroom, with a third day undertaking work activities based around a popular career: Retail Food and drink service Customer service All learners who successfully complete the course will be guaranteed an interview or work trial with one of our partner employers. Northern College
Northern College is the only residential adult further education college in the North of England, delivering life-changing learning, situated in Barnsley, South Yorkshire. Teaching takes place in Wentworth Castle, a fabulous grade I listed house surrounded by 550 acres of National Trust grounds.
This is all available for our students to access throughout their studies. Staying as a resident allows students to ‘get away from it all’ and focus on learning and achieving, away from everyday home and work pressures and gives students access to extra support along with the “head-space” and time to focus on their studies, learn new things, and focus on themselves. The college is a vibrant place welcoming students aged 19 -99 onto a range of 2-day courses and longer residential courses from Entry Level 3 to Level 5. Courses include personal and social development, social justice themed courses, outdoor learning, functional skills, and skills for work.
Our students may gain formal qualifications they need to return to learning, or simply upskilling to help progression within work. Students benefit from studying with likeminded people. Our small college creates a community feel. and gain new and better jobs. Where we encourage everyone to reach their full potential. The courses are fully funded for people earning less than £21,255 a year or unemployed.
